Yes, Livermore is home to over 50 wineries, the world’s fastest rodeo and even has it’s own element on the periodic table. But why do it’s residents absolutely love living in Livermore? Well, here are 10 good reasons…
(1) No cyclist is left behind!
No matter your preference, road bike or mountain bike, Livermore offers an abundance of backroads, trails, and parks right outside your front door. Road bike enthusiasts can be seen daily cruising the rollers on Collier Canyon or challenging themselves with hill repeats on the Altamont, Mines Rd., Patterson Pass or Del Valle. Mountain bike adventurers can enjoy the thrill of downhill and single track trails at Brushy Peak and throughout Del Valle Regional Park. Does your bike need a tune up? Take it to Livermore Cyclery, ask for Bob or Pete…tell them I sent you!
(2) You can “Drink, Eat, Gather” your way through downtown
Not in the mood to cook dinner? I hear ya! Well, head downtown to Sauced, The Alehouse, Demetri’s, Swirl, Lemongrass, Simpy Fondue, Kawa Sushi, Casa Orozco, etc. The choices are many, the flavors are bold and delicious, and the atmosphere can’t be beat! Got a hot date? Score dinner and show by starting your evening at The Last Word with pork tacos and a Fitzgerald…and don’t forget the Bananas Foster for desert. Then catch a show or live music at the Bankhead Theatre. If your bedtime isn’t calling or the babysitter, shake your booty for a song or 5 at Sanctuary Lounge.
(3) Shop til you drop!
The new Premium Outlets offer 150 stores with bargain prices for anyone in need of a little or a lot of retail therapy! Barneys, Bloomingdale’s, Nike, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Burberry…the list goes on and on. If you’re looking for a unique gift, shop downtown at any of Livermore’s specialty stores with creations and crafts from local vendors and artisans. Cooleykatz and Whoopsiedaisy toy stores will enchant your children or your inner child.
(4) Go EXTREME…or not
Have a need for speed? Yeah, me too! You can race go-carts at Umigo, race your dirt bike through Carnegie or Club Moto, and even race your BMX bike around the course on Patterson Pass Rd. If you’re looking for an extreme pace that’s a bit more laid back, no worries. Take a hike through Del Valle Regional Park, play disc golf at the brand new course, or take in 9 holes or more at 1 of 4 golf courses: Springtown, Las Positas, Poppy Ridge, or Wente.
(5) Get married, honeymoon, and never forget your anniversary!
The rolling hills draped in vines and warm evening temperatures make Livermore a perfect wedding location. Two top choices for your list may include Wente Winery and the Ravenswood Historical Site, a Victorian country estate. After the wedding you don’t even need to leave town to honeymoon, visit the Purple Orchid Inn and Spa. Stay in one of their deluxe suites and relax in the quiet countryside while sipping award winning local wines by the pool. You’ll never forget your anniversary because everyday in Livermore will be a reminder of the love of your life!
(6) You can go wine tasting and beer tasting!
You probably know that most of Livermore’s 50 wineries are open daily for tasting. But did you know you can also visit 2 microbreweries and Tap 25 in the Blacksmith Square for beer tastings! Hop lovers can get their taste on at the tasting rooms at Altamont Beer Works and Working Man Brewery, as well as take home a 64 oz growler or a 32 oz growlette!
(7) It’s a great place for kids to grow up!
If you have kids, you’re in luck! Livermore schools have not only been named California Distinguished Schools, but are frequently recognized for their commitment and creativity in providing a world-class education to each and every student. And when it comes to extracurricular activities, there’s no shortage! Private and public organizations provide camps and classes that span virtually every interest and hobby your child my have: art, cooking, music, gymnastics, dance, basketball, soccer, golf, football, softball, martial arts, computer science, drama, swimming, etc.
(8) Gym rats can unite!
I am just as addicted to my daily endorphin rush as the next gym rat. And fortunately, Livermore has a variety of gyms and fitness facilities to choose from. I may be tadbit biased on this one as I have been a member at LifestyleRx for almost a decade. But it’s a fabulous family oriented gym with a wide array of group exercise classes, 3 pools, full size basketball courts and plenty of cardio and weight machines that won’t leave you waiting for your turn to burn! I invite you to be my guest or try performance cycle with me any Monday or Thursday morning!
(9) Get your artistic inspiration and gardening on at the same time!
Livermore has the most amazing nursery! Alden Lane Nursery can inspire and assist you with any outdoor project, or take the kids there for a fun field trip exploring plants and natural wonders. Alden Lane hosts many activities and events there, including hayrides and a pumpkin patch in the fall. Every summer, the Livermore Arts Association holds a fundraiser to support local charities and show off the work of local artist!
(10) Your neighbors rock!
As a resident of Livermore I can honestly tell you that one of my favorite reasons to love living in Livermore is…the people! We are a diverse crew and we all have a story. Yeah some are more interesting than others, but one thing’s for sure…we care about our community and each other. We give back, we smile a lot, we give compliments freely, we share our power tools, we share our butter and eggs when you’re making cookies, we even share our wine, we bring in your trash cans, we dance in the rain and puddle stomp with our children, we cheer for the underdog, we support our heroes, and we don’t just stop for people in crosswalks…we help them across the street when they need a helping hand.
