About Livermore
Livermore is a picturesque and diverse city just 35 miles east of San Francisco, located in the TriValley. It was founded by William Mendenhall and named after Robert Livermore, his friend and a local rancher who settled in the area in the 1840s. You may be surprised to learn that Livermore is North America’s original wine country and is currently home to over 50 wineries, including Wente Vineyard the oldest continuously operating, family-owned winery in California.
When Livermore’s 80,000+ residents aren’t enjoying their local wines or dining out in the bustling downtown district, you can bet you’ll find them at exploring over 1800 acres of parks. From sprawling countryside with numerous backroads for avid cyclists to the 4 award winning golf courses, Livermore is the perfect home for those with an active lifestyle.
Just recently, Livermore became one of only 6 cities in the world with it’s namesake on the periodic table. Scientists from the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory aided in the discovery of “Livermorium” or “Lv” which is a fusion of lead and krypton. Livermore celebrates this discovery along with the importance of STEM education every May 30! The emphasis on science and technology in Livermore is not only found at the lab, but also in all the great local schools.
